Riverhounds 1 Harrisburg 1 In Home Opener
3,119 Fans Welcome Pro Soccer Back To Pittsburgh
The Pittsburgh Riverhounds (0-3-1) scored their only goal in only the 2nd minute of play, but had to settle for a tie with the defending USL-2 Champion Harrisburg City Islanders at Chartiers Valley Stadium. The game marked the rebirth of pro soccer in Pittsburgh, as the Riverhounds returned to the pitch after a one-year hiatus to regroup under a new ownership team. The Riverhounds goal came on a rebound from Ed Hayden that was drilled past the City Islanders' goalkeeper Danny Cepero almost before the 3,119 fans wer nestled into their seats. Joe Zewe was credited with the assist. But Harrisburg, despite being outshot 20-12 by Pittsburgh, was able to climb into a draw in the 77th minute when Jason Pelletier scored on a Ryan Pierce assist. The Riverhounds earn their first point of the season, after starting with three straight road losses at Cleveland, CP Baltimore, and Real Maryland. The Hounds' next five games are all on the road, starting next week when they travel to Western Mass on Thursday and Bermuda on Saturday.
