Jason Kutney - Director of Youth Development
Jason Kutney represents the ownership group of the Riverhounds, serving the Club as CEO, Director of Youth Development, and a player. Organizing an investment group to keep the Riverhounds franchise alive, Kutney worked with fellow owners of the Greentree SportsPlex, and limited partners, to carve out a new direction for the Riverhounds in Western Pa. Kutney spent the 2004 and 2005 seasons with the Charleston Battery (Charleston, SC) of the A-League following a 4-year collegiate career at Duquesne University. A New Jersey native, Kutney gained valuable experience during a youth training stint with Vitesse of Arnhem (Netherlands).

Scott Gibson - Director of Academy Operations
As the first employee hired by the Riverhounds following the franchise acquisition in 2006, Scott Gibson stood out as a multi-dimensional asset for a Professional Club with huge goals. Born in Saltburn, England, Scott arrived in the United States in 2003 to attend Duquesne University where he was a key member of a soccer team ranked as high as 12th in the country among NCAA Div I programs. As a Middlebrough Academy product, Gibson learned, first-hand, the ins and outs of soccer at the highest level. He now serves the Club as the Director of Academy Operations and manages a database of over 1,200 players actively involved in Riverhounds youth programming.

Justin Evans - Head Coach of Pittsburgh Riverhounds Pro-Team
Justin Evans has proven to be a versatile winner in the Riverhounds organization. From player with MLS and US National Team experience, to Player-Coach, to Head Coach, Justin applies a true professional approach to all aspect of the Riverhounds. Getting the Riverhounds into the playoffs in his first two years as Head Coach, Evans has proven that he can take and mold young teams into winning teams. Evans spent time with three different MLS clubs including the San Jose Earthquakes, Chicago Fire, and Dallas Burn. Justin had a stint in Europe playing in the Polish 1st and 2nd Divisions. Evans played college soccer at Penn State University and St. Bonaventure University. Justin is a local from Peters Township.

John Rotz - Director of Team Operations
John Rotz is a key member of the Riverhounds organization performing administrative duties for both team and league throughout the calendar year. He is in charge of setting up tournament play for the local youth and manages the highly-successful “Train With the Pros” program that matches Riverhounds professional players with young players in individual and small group training programs. John attended Shippensburg University and was a Regional All-American his senior year. John came to Pittsburgh to attend Graduate School at the University of Pittsburgh and received a Master’s in Education. Named Assistant Coach by the Club in 2010, John’s ascent is well-deserved as based upon his absolute dedication to the Club and all of its pro and amateur players.

Mike Whiteman - Director of Sport Science
Mike Whiteman grew up in East Pittsburgh and played collegiate soccer at Seton Hill University. While at Seton Hill, Mike received a Bachelor of Science in Biology in 2006 which encouraged him to turn his focus toward the strength and conditioning aspects of soccer. Following the completion of his studies, Mike became certified by the National Academy Sport Medicine (NASM) and began training local athletes at the Greentree SportsPlex through Viper Speed and Strength Academy, a business formed from the success of the Norwin Speed and Strength Academy in Norwin, PA. The Riverhounds utilized Mike’s knowledge of biomechanics in The Riverhounds Academy over the past two years and recognized these attributes were extremely beneficial to further develop the Academy players. In the spring of 2011, the Riverhounds hired Mike as the Director of Sport Science to create a curriculum that will enhance each player to their fullest potential.

Niko Katic - Academy Coach
Niko Katic came to the United States from his native Croatia in 2005 to attend Illinois Central College, where he majored in marketing and was a two year starter and captain. During his college years, Katic played in the USL Premier Development League (PDL) with both Chicago Fire and Springfield Demize. Katic is a current defender of the Riverhounds. Niko oversees all Riverhounds Academy training programs that take place outside of the Greentree SportsPlex and will be pivotal in directing future-named satellite locations.

Hunter Gilstrap - Goalkeeper Academy Coach
Hunter Gilstrap began his professional playing career with the Riverhounds First Team in 2010. During his two seasons with the First Team, Hunter has recorded 16 shutouts and earned the USL Goalkeeper of the Year in 2010. Upon his arrival in Pittsburgh, the Riverhounds expanded their Academy program by implementing a Goalkeeper specific component and using Hunter as the Lead Instructor. Hunter currently serves as Assistant Coach of Carnegie Mellon University’s Men and Women’s Soccer Teams.
