Corey Hertzog enters his second season with the Riverhounds. During the 2016 campaign, the forward appeared in all 30 matches and led the Hounds in goals (13), assists (four), points (30), shots (62) and minutes (2,500) en route to earning All-League Second Team honors.
Prior to signing with Pittsburgh, Hertzog played in the NASL for the Tampa Bay Rowdies in 2015. He made 47 appearances and tallied eight goals while with Tampa Bay. In 2014, Hertzog spent the season with Orlando City, appearing in 22 games and tallying four goals. Orlando City released Hertzog after the 2014 season, as the club transitioned from USL PRO League into MLS.
In 2013, Hertzog faced MLS competition as a member of Vancouver Whitecaps FC. Hertzog scored one goal in seven appearances with the Whitecaps. Later in the 2013 campaign, Hertzog was loaned to FC Edmonton. He appeared in 13 games and scored two goals for the NASL team.
The Reading, Pennsylvania native entered the 2011 MLS SuperDraft after deciding to forgo his senior season at Penn State University. Hertzog was selected No. 13 overall by the New York Red Bulls. He played with New York from 2011-12, appearing in five games. In 2012, Hertzog was loaned to the Wilmington Hammerheads, playing in 17 games and scoring nine goals for the USL PRO League team.
Hertzog played collegiately at Penn State from 2008-10. During his junior season with the Nittany Lions, the forward led the NCAA in goals (20), points (46) and points per game (2.09). He was named First Team All-Big Ten as a junior in 2010 and Second Team All-Big Ten as a sophomore in 2009.
