First 250 supporters receive FREE Pink T-Shirt!

PITTSBURGH, PA -- The Pittsburgh Riverhounds are gearing up for their home opener. The Hounds will host the Real Maryland Monarchs tonight at Chartiers Valley Stadium. Kickoff is at 7:05 p.m.
The team is partnering with the Young Women’s Breast Cancer Awareness Foundation to raise funds and awareness for their worthy cause. Pink wrist bands will be distributed to fans in attendance and pink t-shirts will be given to the first 250 fans, so arrive early to receive the exciting giveaways! It is the Riverhounds’ goal to turn Chartiers Valley Stadium pink in a show of support to breast cancer victims and survivors, so both men and women are strongly encouraged to wear whatever fuchsia, rose, or blush colors they have in their closets.
The Riverhounds are coming off of two strong road games, tying Crystal Palace Baltimore 0-0 in their first game of the season and battling the Richmond Kickers to a 1-1 draw last Saturday. The team scored their first goal of the season last weekend when forward Randolph Jerome fired a rebound past the Kickers goalie. The team is happy to be undefeated so far this season, but they are looking for their first win and an important three points to push them to the top of the USL-2 standings. Home field advantage could certainly help them do this, especially with a large and enthusiastic crowd in the stands, so your support and attendance is extremely important to the Hounds!
Real Maryland has only played one game so far this season, a 3-2 win at home against the Bermuda Hogges. The Monarchs finished last in the USL-2 last season with only three wins, one coming against the Hounds. In 2008, the Riverhounds were 0-1-1 against Real Maryland, losing to them 2-0 on the road before tying them 1-1 at CVS. Twenty-six fouls were called and six yellow cards issued during that hard fought game at Chartiers Valley Stadium.

Aside from the t-shirt and wrist band giveaways, fans in attendance, especially the younger ones, will be able to enjoy games sponsored by the Y.W.B.C.A.F. The Riverhounds’ mascot AMO will be there as well.
The Riverhounds will receive a boost with midfielder Scott Gibson back in the squad after he took three weeks to recover from an ankle sprain injury. Starting defender Chris Riley, however, will not play due to a suspension he received after getting a red card for a studs up tackle during last week’s game against the Richmond Kickers.
The Hounds home opener will be a great opportunity for fans to support a worthy cause and get their first look at all of the team’s new faces. The unseasonably warm weather in the area recently is expected to cool off, which should provide pleasant spring conditions for both fans and players.
We look forward to seeing you there.
Go Hounds!
