Pittsburgh Riverhounds v Harrisburg City Islanders - 7:05pm Saturday
PITTSBURGH, PA -- The Riverhounds will be facing the Harrisburg City Islanders at home this Saturday at 7:05p.m. at Chartiers Valley High School. The Hounds hope to redeem themselves against the Islanders after being shut out, 3-0 in Harrisburg on Saturday for their first loss of the season.
Although the Hounds went undefeated against their cross-state rivals last season, posting a 1-0-2 record against the Islanders, the 2009 series has not started out as well. The Hounds fell behind after the referee awarded a penalty to the Islanders which subsequently resulted in a sending off for Riverhounds GoalKeeper Zach Varga. Harrisburg forward Chad Severs converted the penalty to make it 1 - 0. The Hounds played a man down for much of the game and conceded two more under the pressure. Late in the game Harrisburg’s Jason Massie was also sent off for a dangerous tackle on Riverhounds midfielder Matty Langton.
Harrisburg is now in second place in the USL-2, two points ahead of Pittsburgh, so a win Saturday is crucial for the Hounds to get ahead in the standings. They could move ahead of the Islanders with a win and potentially take top spot in the league.
This Saturday’s game is the second of three match-ups between the two teams. Part two of the Keystone State Derby should prove to be another intense, physical match-up.
Riverhounds’ starting keeper Zach Varga and Islanders will not play due to the red card he received in Saturday’s loss.
Be sure to come out to CVS to cheer on the Hounds to victory this weekend. For tickets call the Riverhounds office at 412-539-1191.
