The Riverhounds next game is away against the Western Mass Pioneers in Ludlow, Massachusetts on June 20th. Kickoff is at 7:30 p.m. at Lusitano Stadium. It will be the first meeting between the two teams this year.
Both the Hounds and Pioneers lost their previous games. The Pioneers (5-5-1) are coming off a scoreless loss decided in penalty kicks against the Harrisburg City Islanders. The Richmond Kickers shut out the Riverhounds, 2-0, at home on Sunday.
Last year, the Riverhounds were unbeaten against the Pioneers, with a 1-0-1 record against them in 2008. They tied the Pioneers 1-1 during the teams’ first meeting away before beating Western Mass 2-0 at home.
The Hounds (3-4-2) are now in eighth place in USL-2 standings with 11 points while the Pioneers sit in sixth place with 13 points. The Riverhounds are hoping to pass them in the standings with a road win.
Players to watch are USL Team of the Week honorees Ed Hayden of the Riverhounds, and Pioneers GK James Thorpe, who had 14 saves in Western Mass’ 2-0 win over Charlotte, and forward Almir Barbosa, who scored both goals in the 2-0 win.
