HOUNDS FACE KICKERS AT EDINBORO TOURNAMENT
Riverhounds Look for Redemption Against Richmond Friday

June 22, 2009

PITTSBURGH, PA -- The Riverhounds host the Richmond Kickers this Friday, June 26 on the first night of the second weekend of the Edinboro Tournament at Edinboro University.  The game, held at 8:05 at Sox Harrison Stadium, will be counted as a home game.

The Riverhounds and Kickers have played twice so far this season.  Once April 25 in Virginia where the played to a 1-1 tie, and then at a recent game at Chartiers Valley Stadium that ended in a 2-0 loss for the Hounds.  This will be the final time the teams meet this season.

Randolph Jerome scored for the Hounds in their first game against Richmond before the team was shut out at home.  Despite the disappointing result, the Riverhounds played a solid game and controlled possession of the ball for much of the match, resulting in several great scoring chances.  The Hounds hope they can win at least one game against Richmond this year and earn an important three points in the USL-2 standings.

The Riverhounds are at the midpoint of their season with 10 games remaining and need to make a push to be in the top six teams in the standings if they are going to make the playoffs and challenge for a USL championship.  Currently they are in the eighth spot with 12 points (3-4-3).

Players to watch are Hounds Defender Ed Hayden, honored last week to the USL-2’s Team of the Week, and Kickers defenseman Sascha Gorres, who had an assist in Richmond’s 2-0 win over Pittsburgh.

The Open Tournament at Edinboro University is held every year and began this past weekend with competition between U10 girls, U11 and U12 boys, U11 and U12 girls, and Divisions 3, 4, and C for U13 and older.  Next weekend’s competition is set for U10 boys, U11 and U12 girls, and Divisions 1 and 2 for U13 and older.

Be sure to attend this special event for a full day of soccer and family-oriented fun.  Remember that the Riverhounds offer discounted ticket prices, $5 per person for groups of 10 or more, and $4 per ticket for groups of 20 or more.  To reserve tickets, call the Riverhounds office at 412-539-1191.
