Hounds Beat Robert Morris 3-0

The Riverhounds traveled to Robert Morris on a beautiful Friday in Pittsburgh to play their second exhibition match of their pre-season. The match was held at Joe Walton Stadium with a kick-off set for 5:30 p.m.

The Hounds gave the Colonials some dangerous opportunities early in the match with a few defensive breakdowns, but Hunter Gilstrap was up for the challenge and would not concede the early goal. Riverhounds player on trial, Jeremy Deighton, opened the scoring in the 16th minute. His hustle and pressure on Robert Morris’ goalkeeper created a 50/50 opportunity which landed in his favor and tucked the ball into the middle of the empty net. The remainder of the first half saw the majority of the play held within the field’s middle third and no real scoring threats from either side.

The second half began with the Riverhounds opening up the field and stretching Robert Morris with some crafty combinations and penetrating passes in their offensive third.   The Hounds second goal came from a combined effort of two players on trial who are looking to secure a roster spot for 2010. Nolan Intermoia made an overlapping run down the left side and played a low driven ball to the near post to find Kolby LaCrone, who one-timed it past the diving goalkeeper in the 58th minute. Ten minutes later rookie, Stephen Reihner’s individual effort found him coming down the right side with a one-on-one on the goalkeeper. Stephen’s quick feet saw him cut it past the keeper then have a right-to-left quick touch past the last defender to poke it into the net. The rest of the match the Hounds played composed and simple focusing on maintaining possession.

The Riverhounds will be back in action on Tuesday, April 6th at Deer Lakes High School to play against Slippery Rock University. The match is set for a 7:00 p.m. start time.
