Riverhounds Focus on Moving into Third Place


Pittsburgh, PA - The Riverhounds (3-3-5) will play host to the Eagles (4-5-3) this Friday for a crucial match in the USL 2nd Division, as one point separates the two Clubs from third place in the standings. The match will be the third meeting between the two, with Charlotte winning the first 2-1 and Pittsburgh winning the second 3-1.


Riverhounds Last Time Out: Traveling to Edinboro University to “Cap” off the PA West Youth Soccer Tournament, Pittsburgh dominated Real Maryland in a 2-0 win. Alex Weekes lit up the scoreboard in the 25th minute when Tommy Gray’s pass for Nate Salsi resulted in a penalty kick. Flunder tallied his first career goal in the 32nd minute when he found the back of the net putting the Hounds up 2 nil in the first half. The Hounds 4 defenseman remained solid in front of net minder Hunter Gilstrap throughout the match. Pittsburgh continued to attack in the second half, but could not finish getting themselves a 3-0 lead.


Eagles Last Time Out: The Charlotte Eagles hosted the Kickers (5-3-4) last weekend that resulted in a 1-1 draw. The first half remained scoreless with Charlotte having three shot against the net. With a scoreless first half both Managers’s made changes to the line-up subbing in reserve players and changing the pace of the game. Matthew Delicate recorded his 10th goal of the season in the 59th minute putting the Kickers up 1 nil. Eagles forward Miguel Ferrer quickly tying the match up 1-1. Both teams had opportunities, taking quality shots but just couldn’t find the back of the net.


Players to Watch: Hounds rookie Alex Weekes has blossomed into an offensive threat with four goals in the past four games, two of which coming against the Eagles. Other Hounds that have been making their impact on the pitch are Tommy Gray, Sterling Flunder and Matt Tuttle. Flunder had his first goal as a Professional last match and Gray continues to have a tireless engine Charlotte Eagle’s Gustavo Bentos scored the lone goal for Charlotte against the Riverhounds and Oguseyne Debola is fast on the pitch.
