About Eric Barnes
In 2007, Eric Barnes played in eight games as a goalkeeper for Pitt, starting seven contests. He made 37 saves and registered a 2.02 goals against average. Barnes led the team with a 3-4-1 record and registered a .712 save percentage. He played a total of 668 minutes on the year and registered wins vs. Duquesne, Saint Joseph’s, and Marquette, finishing with a season high eight saves vs. Duquesne and registering seven saves in a tie vs. South Florida. Barnes made the University of Pittsburgh’s Scholar-Athlete All-Academic Team while there as well.
Barnes Transferred to Pitt from George Mason where he played two seasons of varsity soccer and registered a 0.99 goals against average, had 63 saves, .808 save percentage and finished with five shutouts after seeing action in 14 games and 1360 total minutes as a sophomore. He earned CAA Rookie of the Week honors (Sept. 2005) and was honored with the Martin Dunphy Goalkeeper of the Year Award. Barnes was also named to the National Dean’s List, Athletic Director’s Honor Roll and earned the Colonial Athletic Association Commissioner’s Academic Award. He was a member of the Carolina Dynamo PDL squad that captured the Southest Division championship in 2007.
Barnes is still attending Pitt, but now as a law student expecting to graduate in 2010. When he is not on the pitch, Eric enjoys watching movies and getting extra exercise by playing tennis. Barnes’ favorite professional soccer player is American keeper Jon Busch who plays for the Chicago Fire in MLS.
