About Tenywa Bonseu
Tenywa "T-Bone" Bonseu returns to Pittsburgh after a two-year stint with the team in 1999 and 2000. He played five seasons in Major League Soccer in the United States and four years in the USL First Division for the Rochester Rhinos playing defense
Before becoming a professional, Bonseu played for Horizon FC in Uganda and Martin Methodist College of the NCAA Division II. After leaving Pittsburgh, he signed with the Major Soccer League’s Chicago Fire for the stretch run. He has been in the MLS since, with the Columbus Crew (2001), the Dallas Burn (2002-2003), and the MetroStars, who acquired Tenywa from Dallas for Steve Jolley before the 2004 season.
An extremely durable player who has cracked starting lineups wherever he has played, the quiet, solid, versatile player was one of the youngest players ever selected to appear for the national team of Uganda. He has 21 appearances for Uganda. In five seasons in MLS, Bonseu played in 87 regular season and 11 playoff games (starting all but three). He played four seasons with the Rochester Rhinos from 2005 through 2008.
A fixture of Bonseu’s career is that he can play in the center of the defense, as a right back, or defensive midfield. Early in his career, Bonseu played forward in Africa. He was named Best Defender and MVP of the Transouth Conference in 1998, was A-Leagut All Team in 1999 while with the Riverhounds, and was named the Best Defender in 2002
When not busy playing soccer, "T-Bone" enjoys spending time with his family - playing soccer with his three sons and cooking for his wife Aidah.
