2013 Pittsburgh Riverhounds
Founded in 1999, the Pittsburgh Riverhounds have brought elite soccer to Western Pennsylvania and are the only pro soccer team in the Tri-State Area. The Riverhounds recruit players from top programs around the country and the world. Our pros have played at top universities, in professional leagues, and in international competitions.
In January of 2010, the Riverhounds appointed Justin Evans, the original Hound, as the First Team Head Coach. Evans’ inaugural year as Head Coach brought many new faces to the Club transforming the squad into the ever present Pittsburgh Cliché of blue-collar and hard-working players.
During the fall, the Riverhounds joined the USL PRO Division created by the United Soccer Leagues. The USL PRO will introduce regional divisions through the merger of many storied franchises in the United States and the evolution of new franchises throughout North America. With these mergers, the USL PRO Division will sit just below Major League Soccer and serve as a stepping stone for players looking to jump to the next level.
This coming season will be one for the ages as the Riverhounds gear up for the inaugural season at Highmark Stadium.
The Stadium intends to operate year-round and host training programs, games, and tournaments for soccer, football, lacrosse, rugby, and softball. Stadium users will include youth, high school, college, adult, and professional athletes. The stadium management is also currently assessing plans to incorporate outdoor ice rinks in the winter for public skate hours and amateur hockey games, as well as the potential use of the stadium for concerts, cultural fairs, and charitable events.
The stadium will have approximately 3,500 permanent seats on the south and east sides of the field. The north side of the field will remain open to welcome incomparable views of the Pittsburgh skyline.
