Pittsburgh Riverhounds SC (0-0-0) kicks off its 20th anniversary season with a showdown against the Tampa Bay Rowdies (1-0-0) at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday at Al Lang Stadium. The two played to a draw in both of their meetings last season. The game will be televised on Pittsburgh’s CW.
Back in the Bay
In two prior road trips to battle the Rowdies, Pittsburgh has accumulated an away record of 0-1-1. The squad will look to clinch its first-ever road win against the foe this weekend in St. Petersburg.
This weekend, forwards Christian Volesky and Steevan Dos Santos can potentially make their respective debuts for the club. Together, the duo has combined for more than 200 games played and 60 goals at the USL Championship level. Their added experience should give the Hounds’ attack an extra boost this season.
Goalkeeper Kyle Morton has three career starts, all of which came with the Hounds last year. In these three games, he posted three clean sheets and a 1.000 save percentage. This streak cannot last forever, but Morton will look to pick up where he left off before a knee injury ended his 2018 season.
By the Numbers: 24
Midfielder Kevin Kerr, who has 24 career assists with the club, is one assist from tying David Flavius’ club-record all-time career mark.
Key to Victory: Generate Chances
Throughout the preseason, the club has placed emphasis on generating chances in the offensive third. Against Tampa Bay, which is coming off a shutout effort, the Hounds will need to follow through on their chances created.
