Pittsburgh Riverhounds SC (2-1-4) hits the road to take on the Charleston Battery (4-1-2) at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday at MUSC Health Stadium. The game will be televised on Pittsburgh’s CW.
Battery Brilliant at Home
Charleston comes into the game undefeated in home matches this season. The club holds a 3-0-1 record at MUSC Health Stadium with an overall goal differential of 8-3. Playing on the road is a difficult task, but it especially will be challenging for the Hounds this weekend against a Battery club that is tough to take down at home.
Making them Count
Despite being in the bottom half of the Eastern Conference in total shots, the Black and Gold have made the most of shot opportunities. Their 17.5 percent conversion rate is fifth in the conference. Pittsburgh has not created chances in volume this season, but the club has proven to be dangerous when it does create shots toward the cage.
The Streak Stands
The Hounds come into the match against the Battery riding a six-game unbeaten streak. Only three teams in the entire USL Championship have currently managed an unbeaten streak of at least six games. While they haven’t dropped a result since the season opener, it will be positive for the Hounds if they come out of Charleston with three points this weekend.
By the Numbers: 3
Riverhounds SC is just three wins away from its 200th overall victory (including league, postseason and Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup play) in franchise history.
Key to Victory: Keep the Momentum Going
The Black and Gold rattled off two goals in the closing minutes of last weekend’s contest against Nashville SC. Following the match, both Christian Volesky and Ryan James noted that even though the result wasn’t exactly what they were looking for, it will be important for the squad to carry over that late-game momentum. If the Hounds come out with the same energy that they finished with last Saturday, they should find plenty of success this weekend.
