PITTSBURGH (August 10, 2017) – The Pittsburgh Riverhounds have signed goalkeeper Matt Perrella for the remainder of the 2017 season, pending USL and USSF approval.

Perrella, 25, joins the club after most recently playing for New Jersey Copa FC of the NPSL. His signing comes on the heels of the Hounds losing keeper Keasel Broome for the rest of the year due to season-ending wrist surgery.

"While it's unfortunate for us to lose Keasel, who did an excellent job recently in filling in for an injured Trey Mitchell, we are really fortunate to find a keeper of Matt's experience and ability at this point in the season,” said head coach Dave Brandt. “Matt’s been in training with us for a week now and we've been very happy with his performance and are glad he's in Pittsburgh"

Prior to competing for Copa FC, Perrella registered stints both nationally and overseas, including playing for USL counterpart Bethlehem Steel FC during the 2016 season.

The New Brunswick, New Jersey native graduated from Rider University in 2012 following a four-year career, including three as team captain. After a trial with MLS side Sporting Kansas City, Perrella went to England to pursue his MBA at Durham University, while also playing for Durham City A.F.C. of the Northern League Division Two.

Perrella’s time with Durham resulted in subsequent trials with Newcastle United F.C., Udinese Calcio in Italy, LB Châteauroux in France, FK Daugava Rīga in Latvia and APOEL FC in Cyprus.

Returning stateside, Perrella went on trial with Jacksonville Armada FC of NASL before signing with the Carolina RailHawks – now North Carolina FC. After the conclusion of the NASL campaign, Perrella spent time in the Major Arena Soccer League with the Syracuse Silver Knights and then Copa FC.

Perrella’s time with Copa FC led him to land a contract with Steel FC in 2016, where he made four starts with the affiliate club of the Philadelphia Union.

Following the 2016 campaign in Bethlehem, Perrella returned to New Jersey, most recently being loaned for one game to Armada FC this past June.

The Hounds expect Perrella to be available for Saturday’s Keystone Derby Cup finale, presented by K&L Gates and the Pennsylvania Lottery, against the Harrisburg City Islanders at 7 p.m. at FNB Field. For more information, visit
