BIO
Jelani Peters is in his second season with Riverhounds SC after the team picked up his option for 2022.
Peters appeared in 21 games in his first season with the Hounds, missing much of July due to international duty at the CONCACAF Gold Cup. He scored his first goal for the Hounds on Sept. 1 to secure a 1-0 win over New York Red Bulls II.
The big defender from Trinidad previously played with Toronto FC II from 2017-19, first in the USL Championship and later in USL League One. He totaled six appearances for Toronto, which first acquired Peters through a loan deal with W Connection in his home country.
Peters made 22 appearances for W Connection in 2016-17, including four in the CONCACAF Champions League, and he scored once for the club.
The 2021 season also saw Peters make his international debut for Trinidad and Tobago in a Gold Cup qualifier July 2 against Montserrat. Peters scored in the penalty shootout against French Guiana that clinched the Soca Warriors’ spot, and he also started two of three matches at the Gold Cup, including the team’s 0-0 draw vs. Mexico.
