PITTSBURGH (Aug. 13, 2026) — The USL Championship’s longest-running rivalry is back, and as often is the case, the Hounds and the Charleston Battery are jockeying for position at the top of the table.
The third meeting of the year between the teams — but the first in Pittsburgh — comes at a time when the Battery need wins if they are to track down the first-place Tampa Bay Rowdies in the Eastern Conference. The Hounds sit just six points back of Charleston and only one point adrift of Louisville for a spot in the top four, however, making three points just as valuable to the home team on Saturday.
The Battery took a 2-1 win at home in the season opener back on March 7, and the teams met again in the Prinx Tires USL Cup on June 6, when the 10-man Hounds held on for a 0-0 draw before dropping the bonus point in that competition on penalty kicks. In total, this will be the 49th all-time meeting — the most of any Hounds opponent — and while the Battery grabbed a 2-1 win in Pittsburgh in 2025, the Hounds were 4-0-2 in the last six home matches against Charleston prior to that.
The Hounds have started out August effectively, particularly in the defensive half. Nico Campuzano has back-to-back clean sheets from a win at Oakland and a tough 0-0 draw with Sacramento, which has been a reflection of the team’s defensive growth overall. The Hounds allowed 16 goals in their first 10 matches across all competitions this season, but in the 16 matches since, opponents have put just nine past Hounds goalkeepers.
The attack has been the calling card for the Battery since Ben Pirmann was first hired as head coach, and that has not changed in his fourth season. The Battery lead the league with 38 goals — an even two per game — behind balanced contributions from Colton Swan with seven goals and Maalique Foster and Emilio Ycaza with six apiece.
Black and yellow are always the operative colors when the Hounds and Battery get together, and Saturday, you can add Charlie Brown‘s shirt to the color coordination with Peanuts Night theme at F.N.B. Stadium. Special merchandise connected to the beloved comic strip will be available in-stadium, and after the final whistle, there will be a post-match fireworks show tied into the theme night.
Tickets for the match are in limited supply, but they are still available through Ticketmaster and at the F.N.B. Stadium Box Office.
One change of note for this weekend’s match is a broadcast change. The match now will be shown live on SportsNet Pittsburgh — with replays airing Sunday — after originally being slated for ESPN2. ESPN+ still will have the live stream of the match, and Radio Las Palmas, 92.9 FM HD2 will have the call of the action in Spanish.
