PITTSBURGH (Oct. 24, 2026) — Trevor Amann and Danny Griffin scored goals only 85 seconds apart to propel the playoff-bound Pittsburgh Riverhounds to a 2-1 win over Birmingham Legion FC to close the regular season tonight at F.N.B. Stadium.
Ronaldo Damus scored late for the Legion (6-12-12), but the Hounds (13-11-6) held on to remain unbeaten in seven home matches against Birmingham.
The result secured the No. 5 seed in the Eastern Conference for the Hounds, who will begin the defense of their USL Championship title at No. 4 seed Louisville City FC on Friday, Oct. 30 at 6:30 p.m.
First half
Griffin got things rolling less than two minutes into the match with a well-struck volley that forced Legion goalie Jaseem Koleilat to tip the ball over the bar. The Hounds stayed on the front foot by taking the first seven shots in the match, finishing with a 12-2 edge in first-half shots.
The Hounds continued to be dangerous working the left side of the field, with Sam Bassett flashing a pair of shots past goal and a series of crosses nearly finding targets at the back post.
The Legion finally put their first shot on goal in the final minute of the half, and it was a good chance for late-arriving Sam Shashoua, but his shot was held on the ground by Nico Campuzano.
Second half
Amann got the scoring started in the 55th minute, just after a headed opportunity of his had bounced wide. The Hounds’ top scorer was able to win the ball applying pressure on the Legion defense, and he cut into the box from the right side before finishing for his 13th goal of the season and ninth in Championship play.
Barely a minute after scoring, Amann turned into the creator when he played a rolling pass from the left side back to the top of the box. Griffin arrived to put his laces through the ball on his first touch, burying a 20-yard shot into the right corner of the net for his fourth goal of the season and a 2-0 lead.
The Hounds worked to close the match out, bringing on Albert Dikwa and Lasse Kelp for their first action after time missed due to injury. Damus pulled a goal back for the Legion in the 82nd minute, but the Hounds saw the game out to finish the year with six matches unbeaten at F.N.B. Stadium.
Modelo Man of the Match
Trevor Amann was the top man with contributions on both goals, scoring the first and assisting the second. He finished with five total shots, three chances created and a strong work rate winning 8 of 12 duels.
