(Sept. 19, 2026) — The Pittsburgh Riverhounds suffered only their second defeat since the start of August after the lone goal by Kian Williams in the second half gave Detroit City FC a 1-0 win tonight at Keyworth Stadium in Hamtramck, Mich.
Williams’ goal in the 73rd minute came on the first shot on goal in the match for Detroit (11-6-7), which leaped over the Hounds (11-10-5) for third in the Eastern Conference with the result. It was also the 12th of 13 all-time meetings between the teams to feature two or fewer goals.
First half
A series known for low-scoring contests lived up to its billing with few chances in the opening stages. Detroit’s Jeciel Cedeño was high on a long-range effort to catch Hounds goalkeeper Nico Campuzano off his line early in the match, and Robbie Mertz was high of the target from distance on the Hounds’ first shot.
Jackson Walti led the Hounds on a counter in the 13th minute and sent the ball wide on the left to Albert Dikwa, but Dikwa’s ball back to the front of goal was too long and corralled by Detroit goalkeeper Carlos Herrera.
Dikwa forced the game’s first save out of Herrera with three minutes before the break. He received a pass from Beto Ydrach at the top of the box and took a touch to set the ball up on his right foot, but his low, hard shot was too close to Herrera, who was able to hold the ball.
Second half
Abdoulaye Diop came close for Detroit in the 56th minute, when he found space to tee up a left-footed shot from the top of the box that missed wide right of the bottom corner.
The hosts pulled ahead in the 73rd minute on a play that began from a right-footed diagonal ball by Aedan Stanley on the left side. The pass found Haruki Yamazaki alone in a wide position right of the goal, and Yamazaki placed a header across the front of goal that hit Williams in stride for a one-touch finish past Campuzano.
Campuzano came up with a big save minutes later to keep it 1-0, denying a long, well-struck shot by substitute Cheikhou Niang and not leaving a rebound. The Hounds’ late chances came from set pieces, with free kicks and a corner kick after falling behind, but the team was unable to put another shot on target.

Beto Ydrach was effective in a largely defensive match, winning all six of his duels and contributing four recoveries. He also won 2 of 3 tackles and got forward to add a chance created late in the first half.

The Hounds make their final West Coast trip of the regular season when they visit Orange County SC in a 10 p.m. contest Saturday, Sept. 26 in Irvine, Calif. Orange County (9-10-6) suffered a lopsided 6-0 defeat tonight at Lexington, putting them squarely on the playoff bubble in the Western Conference.
