With a 2-2 draw last time out at FC Cincinnati, Riverhounds SC (2-0-3) remains unbeaten in 2018. The Hounds now turn their attention to Atlanta United 2 (1-1-3), as the two teams will battle at 7 p.m. on Saturday at Highmark Stadium. This will be the first-ever meeting between the clubs.
Trail Blazers
Even though Pittsburgh’s shutout streak came to an end last weekend against FC Cincinnati, one streak still remains. This year, the Hounds have not yet trailed in any match, which marks the first time the club has accomplished this feat five games into a season in the current era of the USL (since 2011).
Role Reversal
For the second straight game, the Hounds found scoring from players more known for their defense than their offense. Defender Jordan Dover posted his first career tally in the 6th minute against FC Cincinnati. This follows a match against Ottawa Fury FC in which center back Tobi Adewole scored the game-winning goal. The Hounds will look to have another strong game from their backline this weekend – and possibly another mark on the score sheet.
Rude Awakening
The Hounds have recently faired well against USL newcomers. Including the club’s tie against Nashville earlier this season, Pittsburgh holds a 2-0-1 record in first meetings with clubs in USL play dating back to last year. Furthermore, the Black and Gold recorded a shutout in all three of these games. The Hounds will aim to have similar success against Atlanta United 2.
With Dover’s goal against FC Cincinnati, Riverhounds SC now has one goal scored in the first half of games this season. Despite only scoring once in the first half of games, Pittsburgh has been strong in the second stanzas, scoring six of its seven total goals in the final 45 minutes.
Last time out against FC Cincinnati, Riverhounds SC struggled to hold the ball and logged its lowest possession time of the season (36.2 percent). This subsequently led to the club being outshot (13-10) for the first time in 2018. Building back up the time in possession could lead to better offensive pressure and defensive success this Saturday.
