PITTSBURGH (November 28, 2017) – The Pittsburgh Riverhounds Development Academy has been invited to participate in the prestigious 2018 Dr Pepper Dallas Cup, as part of a larger agreement between the renowned youth competition and the United Soccer League (USL).
Announced today by the USL, the Riverhounds Development Academy (RDA) will be one of seven academy outfits from the league to participate in the competition, joining the Charleston Battery, OKC Energy FC, Orange County SC, Rio Grande Valley FC, Saint Louis FC and San Antonio FC. The RDA will be sending its Under-14 ECNL Boys squad to compete against top teams from across the United States and the world.
The Dallas Cup is set to run from March 25-April 1 in Frisco, Texas.
“The Dallas Cup is a world-class event that offers one of the top soccer experiences available to youth players within the United States,” Riverhounds Sporting Director Jason Kutney said. “This is a significant step forward in what will be a much larger plan for USL academies going forward. We are honored to have Pittsburgh included and extremely excited about what the next years will bring about in strengthening the youth landscape through the USL.”
Per the league release, the Dallas Cup is an invitation-only event that selects the best teams from hundreds of qualified applicants. The tournament is comprised of seven age groups from U-13 through U-18 and U-19 and has featured the likes of Landon Donovan, David Beckham, Javier ‘Chicarito’ Hernandez, Wayne Rooney and Clint Dempsey during their youth careers.
