An ECNL road weekend faced the Riverhounds Development Academy’s teams last weekend, with Cincinnati and Louisville, Ky., as the destinations to face Ohio Elite and Louisville City/Racing Louisville in both boys and girls matches.
Six points was the reward for both the 2005 and 2007 Girls teams, and the 07s did it without conceding a goal. Sierra Dupre scored twice, and Emma Schupansky, Ava Yurko and Isabella Costa struck in a 5-0 win over Ohio Elite, while Costa and Robin Reilly got the goals in a 2-0 win in Louisville to move the team to 5-1-1 and second place in the Ohio Valley North standings, two points off the lead.
The 2005 Girls had to pull it out late in Ohio, letting a two-goal lead from Lucia Wells and Fiona Mahan slip away before netting the winner, 3-2, on a Mahan free kick with four minutes remaining. The goals kept coming Sunday, as Wells punched in four in a 6-2 win over Racing Louisville. Mahan added another free kick goal, and Lola Abraham also scored for the Hounds.
The 03/04 Girls maintained a second place position, as well, after a 2-2 draw with Ohio Elite. Tessa Dellarose flicked home a feed from Natalie Matthews, and Azalea Mihailovich finished a Jayden Sharpless cross for the goals, but a spot of controversy led to Ohio equalizing late. The team topped Louisville, 3-1, after Mary Kate Lape got the first goal, and Dellarose and Mihailovich secured the win with goals in the final 10 minutes.
On the boys’ side, the 2006 side were double winners in convincing fashion, knocking off Ohio Elite, 4-0, and Louisville City, 5-1. Pablo Linzoain and Davi Jansson scored within minutes of each side of halftime, and Zach Nash and Carson Krushansky put the Ohio game away late. The four-goal margin was a bit unflattering to Louisville in the second match, but the Hounds made no apologies for clinical finishing by Jansson, who notched the first three goals for his hat trick, along with scorers Nash and Carter Turk.
The 06 Boys side sits second on total points in the Ohio Valley Conference, though every team currently has at least one game in hand. The same can be said for the 05 Boys, who split their weekend results with a 3-1 win Ohio and a 1-0 loss in Kentucky. The 07 Boys finished with two identical scores to the 05s, and they sit three points clear of the conference, though again with chasing teams having games in hand.
Other ECNL winners on the weekend were the 09 Boys in lopsided fashion and the 03/04 Boys in a tight 2-1 game against Ohio Elite. The 03/04 Regional League Girls also stopped a slide with a 3-1 win in Louisville.
Apart from the ECNL matches, RDA II and RDA East Boys sides had plenty of success in last weekend’s GLA Showcase. Two of the sides, the 07 RDA II and 07 East teams, finished the weekend with 2-0-1 records. The 03/04 RDA II, 06 RDA II and 04 East teams all went 2-1-0, while the 05 RDA II side was unbeaten with a 1-0-2 mark.
Among the individual highlights were hat tricks by Max Davis (07 RDA II) and Ian McEwan (06 RDA II) on the opening Friday, three goals on the weekend for Charles Foulds (05 RDA II), three goals and an assist in the event for Robbie Labuda (04 East), and a Saturday clean sheet for Cooper Wentz playing up an age group with the 03/04 RDA II team.
Also having a good weekend was the 10 East Girls in GLA play. The team took a 0-0 draw in the first game with Empire United and then turned things on for a 3-1 win in a second Empire meeting on the weekend.
Lastly, we have a site note to share: Now that the conversion to the new Riverhounds.com website has been completed, the RDA Results page will be back in action starting this weekend!
There, you will be able to find a more complete index of results from games across all our RDA teams, and it will be a busy three days to start with more ECNL matches, the Girls Showcase Weekend at the prestigious Jefferson Cup, as well as GLA and Pre-ECNL contests.
