PITTSBURGH (Aug. 15, 2023) — Pittsburgh Riverhounds SC defender Dani Rovira was selected to the USL Championship Team of the Week for Week 23, the league announced this afternoon.
Rovira, who was playing in his 100th match for the Hounds, earned his spot in the league’s best 11 with an excellent two-way performance at left back in a 2-0 win Saturday over Hartford Athletic.
Rovira jump-started the scoring by pressing forward to force a turnover and assisting Albert Dikwa for the game’s opening goal. He also won 6 of 9 duels in the match and was excellent in possession, connecting on 40 of 45 passes for an 88.9 percent rate before exiting the match in the 77th minute.
It is the first time since Week 6 of 2021 that Rovira — now in his fifth season in Pittsburgh — has nabbed a Team of the Week honor. He was joined on the team by center back Arturo Ordóñez, who earned one of the seven bench spots for his role in the shutout, which included four interceptions, three clearances and winning possession a team-high 12 times.

The Hounds are back on the field tomorrow night when they visit Orange County SC for a 10 p.m. kickoff in Irvine, Calif. The match will be streamed live on ESPN+.
