PITTSBURGH (October 27, 2017) – The Pittsburgh Riverhounds have added three local travel soccer associations to their Partner Club Program, with Montour Youth Soccer Association (MYSA), Mt. Lebanon Soccer Association (MLSA) and West Allegheny Youth Soccer Association (WAYSA) all signing on for participation.
With these additional partnerships secured, the Riverhounds expect their Partner Club Program to effectively impact more than 4,000 youth soccer players by spring of 2018. The program brings a focus to player and coach development, which is designed to elevate overall technical competence in its effort to assist local soccer leaders. These partnerships also serve to provide additional training resources to both players and coaches.
Training with Montour has already begun as part of a six-week program aimed at the technical development of players between the ages 9 and 13 with an estimated involvement of between 450 and 500 youth players, including members of MYSA travel and in-house.
“MYSA is extremely happy to have the sophistication and guidance of true soccer skills and knowledge of the game through the Riverhounds program,” MYSA President Scott Phillips said. “MYSA is also excited to have this type of soccer professionalism within our community and look forward to a great relationship within our organization.”
Mt. Lebanon will start this winter, including indoor training between the months of November and March. The MLSA winter program will see the Hounds working with approximately 90 players in the Under-9 through Under-13 range one day per week. Presently, MLSA serves the needs of over 350 travel and 500 in-house youth soccer players on an annual basis as one of the largest associations in the South Hills of Pittsburgh.
“We recognize the need for a cultural change in youth soccer,” said Brienne Colby Sembrat, MLSA Director of Player and Coach Development. “The Riverhounds option provides families of our top players with in-community training, affordably. We can thus simultaneously offer community play with friends while ensuring that young players do not over train and families do not need to overextend. This is the goal.”
Both Montour and Mt. Lebanon are expected to continue training into this upcoming spring, when West Allegheny will also kick off training with an eight-session training package for participants Under-8 through Under-15. The WAYSA partnership will include between 100 and 150 youth players, representing nearly half of the total enrollment in the travel association.
“We are excited to partner with the Riverhounds to enhance our current recreational and travel programs,” WAYSA President Michael Pons said. “This is a great opportunity to provide our local community players high quality technical training from Riverhounds coaches and players.”
