2020- 2021 Winter Training Academy - Session 1

Overview

REGISTER HERE

The Pittsburgh Riverhounds SC 2020-2021 Winter Technical Training Academy kicks off this November in a two-phase approach. With the current constraints due to the Covid-19 pandemic, our first session prior to the holidays will take place at Montour Junction Sports Complex in Coraopolis. The safety of our families is our main priority, and outdoor training will follow all CDC guidelines. Parents will be allowed to observe the training sessions at the complex.

The program will offer a 15-minute introduction to speed and strength training followed by one hour of high-level technical training. The sessions will be fast-paced in an environment that encourages learning and will aim to help all players to improve on the ball. The coaches will be comprised of current Riverhounds Development Academy (RDA) team coaches and professional players.

The program is broken into two areas which will be explained below.

  1. Players born between 2016-2012 – Grassroots Age Group
  2. Players born between 2011–2004 – Training Academy Age Group

There are no formal evaluations for the program, and we will break up the groups after the first few sessions according to the technical level of the players. The program is a great way for players to work hard over the winter months to improve areas of their game prior to the spring.

Location: (Outside)
Montour Junction Sports Complex
2419 State Avenue
Coraopolis, PA 15108

Information on Winter Session II will be announced soon.

As we move into the winter, we will continue to improve and grow our highly successful Grassroots Program. The Grassroots Program was launched in the summer of 2019 and has provided an excellent platform for our youngest players to train and improve. Our current fall session is in progress, and we will transition into the winter session in November. We have instilled our top coaches and technical trainers into the Grassroots phase of our developmental model.

Age Groups:

  1. 4/5-year-old boys and girls (2016-2015 birth years)
  2. 6/7/8-year-old boys (2014/2013/2012 birth years)
  3. 6/7/8-year-old girls (2014/2013/2012 birth years)

We can move players throughout the age groups at any time. We will put the players in the correct developmental age group based on the level of the player. This may also split out into more groups and this will be determined by registration numbers. As a program, we will be very flexible with this and will have a player to coach ratio of 1:15.

The Riverhounds Technical Training Academy utilizes detailed demonstrations to help the players perform soccer movements correctly. The program will focus on fast-paced, high-level technical exercises covering (but not limited to) first touch, dribbling, passing, shooting, turning and combinations of footwork.

The building block approach will be used throughout the program to push the limits of each player's technical competency. Our goal is to ensure players complete the program with an improvement in all aspects of the technical side of the game. The first 15 minutes of training will focus on our speed and strength training.

At the age groups below, boys and girls will be in different training groups.
