Pittsburgh Riverhounds SC (2-1-2) hosts USL Championship Eastern Conference-leading Saint Louis FC (4-1-1) at 7 p.m. this Saturday at Highmark Stadium. The game will be streamed live on ESPN+.
Dos Santos Delivers
Striker Steevan Dos Santos put together an impressive showing last weekend against Hartford Athletic. Dos Santos notched his first goal of the season and finished the outing with three shots on target. The Hounds could rely heavily on the striker again this weekend, as Saint Louis is a strong defensive team that doesn’t allow many goals (0.83 team goals-against average).
Terrific Tackling
The Hounds’ defense has continued to impress this season. With a 78.7 success rate on tackles this year, the club has seen little trouble disrupting the rhythm of opposing teams in 2019. Saint Louis brings in an attack loaded with weapons, so it will be important for the Hounds to limit its opportunities.
Fort Fenlason
In three of his club’s four victories this season, Saint Louis goalkeeper Jake Fenlason has earned clean sheets. Fenlason has stopped 15 of the 20 shots he has faced so far this campaign but is coming off his rockiest outing of the season. In last weekend’s match against Birmingham Legion FC, the keeper allowed a season-high three goals in the loss.
By the Numbers: 26
With 26 career regular season goals for the Black and Gold, Kevin Kerr is one score shy of tying Corey Hertzog for the third most in team history.
Key to Victory: Fire Away
This season, opposing teams have struggled to create quality shot opportunities against Saint Louis, which is tied for fourth in the Eastern Conference in terms of the least goals allowed. If the Hounds can carry over the offensive momentum they built in last weekend’s victory, they could find success against Saint Louis on Saturday.
