Pittsburgh Riverhounds SC (1-1-2) finally takes the field on its home turf at 7 p.m. on Saturday at Highmark Stadium against Hartford Athletic (0-5-0). The game will be streamed live on ESPN+.
Back in the ‘Burgh
After four consecutive road games, the Black and Gold are back in the Steel City. The Hounds saw plenty of success at Highmark Stadium last season, finishing with a 9-2-7 record at home. A date with the slumping Hartford squad gives the Hounds a good chance to pick up the success where they left off at home last season.
A Familiar Face
Hartford striker José Angulo returns to Pittsburgh to take on his former team. Angulo is tied with Phil Karn for sixth all-time in regular season goals in the Hounds’ history with 23 tallies. His 15 goals during the 2013 season earned the Colombian the 2013 USL MVP and Golden Boot honors. Angulo has been held without a goal so far in 2019 but has recorded two shots on target.
Stand ‘Gaard
Goalkeeper Ben Lungaard notched his first career win and clean sheet last weekend in Louisville. The 23-year-old finished the outing with one save. The goalkeeping duo of Lundgaard and Kyle Morton has been strong to start the season and looks to continue their high level of play this weekend against Hartford.
By the Numbers: 1
Saturday’s match will be the first-ever meeting between the two teams.
Key to Victory: Play Clean Defense
Hartford’s offense has lacked any sort of rhythm in its inaugural season. In its first five games, the club has only found the back of the net twice. If the Hounds’ strong defensive line can hold off the Athletic’s stagnant attack, it could very well be enough to grab a win.
