PITTSBURGH (October 9, 2018) – Pittsburgh Riverhounds SC defender Joe Greenspan has been named to USL Team of the Week after helping the club to its league-leading 17th shutout of the year in a nil-nil draw against FC Cincinnati last Saturday.
Holding down the Hounds defense at center back alongside Hugh Roberts, Greenspan led the team with 14 clearances, as well as pitched in five interceptions and won 8-of-12 duels. The clean sheet effort marked the second for the Hounds in their past three matches and only the fourth time all season Cincinnati has been held scoreless.
Despite missing 10 games in the middle of the year due to injury, Greenspan paces Pittsburgh with 151 clearances and is fourth among defenders in minutes played (1,830). He is also one of eight Hounds to have scored multiple goals (2) on the season.
The weekly honor marks the second time Greenspan has made the league’s best XI and the 15th time overall a Hound has been named to USL Team of the Week.
Next up for Greenspan and the Black and Gold is a road date with Atlanta United 2 tomorrow night at Coolray Field. The match is the first of two games on the road this week to end the 2018 regular season.
