The fall season is winding down, but for many of the RDA’s older boys sides, last weekend was a first chance to get on the field together after the end of the high school season.
The Hounds traveled across the state for the FC Delco Fall Showcase, where they were able to put some good performances on display and start building chemistry against excellent opposition in an annual, high-level event that ran from Friday through Monday around the suburban Philadelpia area.
For the eldest side on the trip, the 2002/03 Boys, it was an unbeaten weekend with a 2-0-1 record. Sam Farner scored twice in an opening 3-1 win over West-Mont United, and Farner and Drew Kemper both scored headed goals for a 2-0 win over FC Delco. The final match saw the Hounds battle another top ECNL side, Penn Fusion, for 90 scoreless minutes, bringing a great first outing to a close.
The 04 Boys were bested in their meeting with Penn Fusion, 2-0, but that came later in the same day Caden Carpenter scored twice in a convincing 5-0 win over Lehigh Valley. It took a late Johnny Dragisich equalizer, but the 04s then wrapped up a 1-1-1 record with a 1-1 draw against Lower Merion.
Also locking up a pair of wins were the 06 Boys, who began with a 1-0 win over FC Delco in which the team withstood pressure and grabbed the winner on the counter through Johnny Krug. A three-goals-in-five-minutes burst by FC Europa send the Hounds to a 3-0 loss, but the team rebounded with two goals from Jackson Suski and one from J.J. Vozar to earn a 3-1 win over FC Europa for a 2-1-0 showcase.
Some of the biggest results on the weekend came from the RDA II sides, most notably the 06 RDA II Boys. That group recorded the only perfect record for the RDA by winning by scores of 7-0, 2-0 and 8-0, as Bennett Haas knocked home seven goals, James Jayomahan had six, and Evan Peterson tallied three with one in each match.
The 02/03 RDA II Boys showed steady progression through the weekend, as well, going from a 3-1 loss to FC Revolution in their opener to snagging a tough 1-1 draw against FC Ballyhoo, thanks to a later Conner Oechslin equalizer. The team closed things out in the win column, 2-0 over the host club, as Oechslin handled the scoring with one assisted by Alex O’Donnell, who scored in the opening match.
