DURHAM, N.C. (February 19, 2017) – The Pittsburgh Riverhounds capped off a strong preseason swing in North Carolina with a 2-0 victory over Duke at the Blue Devils’ Athletic Field Complex in Durham.
After a scoreless first half, the Hounds struck quick with two goals in the span of three minutes to secure the lead for good. Notching the first tally was Kevin Kerr with a nice finish in the penalty area in the 53rd minute. Stephen Okai followed that effort with a goal off an indirect kick in the box in the 55th minute.
Also of note, the Hounds had another trialist debut with the club, making it four to appear so far this preseason. Defender Brad Ruhaak started the second half, while Guy Ballo, Dan Bedoya and Hayden Partain all played for the second-straight match. Ruhaak previously played at the University of Akron, where he was a teammate of current Hounds midfielder Victor Souto for three seasons.
The Hounds now return home for two preseason matches next weekend. First up will be the University of Akron at Highmark Stadium at 1 p.m. on Saturday, February 25. Pittsburgh will then play Duquesne University the following day at the Allegheny Health Network Sports Complex at Cool Springs at 8 a.m. Both matches are free to attend for the public.
