PITTSBURGH (Jan. 23, 2023) — Pittsburgh Riverhounds SC will play a six-match preseason schedule this winter against a mix of MLS, USL and NCAA opponents in preparation for the 2023 USL Championship season, the team announced today.
Four of the six matches will be played at home — with all home games on Saturdays — and the preseason will get off to a big start with a visit to face the Columbus Crew on Saturday, Feb. 4. The Hounds will face their MLS opponents at their training facility, OhioHealth Performance Center, in a closed-door, 12:30 p.m. kickoff.
The schedule shifts back to Pittsburgh with matches against top college opposition the next three Saturdays — Penn State at 4 p.m. on Feb. 11, Akron at 4 p.m. on Feb. 18 and Pitt at 7 p.m. on Feb. 25. In the midst of those matches is a Tuesday, Feb. 21 trip to face fellow USL Championship club Detroit City FC at 2 p.m., and the preseason will wrap up at Highmark Stadium on Saturday, March 4, with a 2 p.m. match against reigning Eastern Conference champion Louisville City FC.
All home matches are slated to be played at Highmark Stadium, and the games will be open to fans, free of charge. In the event of wintry weather, home matches could be moved to the indoor field at the Hounds’ new AHN Montour Junction Sports Complex in Coraopolis.
The Hounds will begin the USL Championship regular season on March 11 at Birmingham Legion FC, and they will be bidding to extend the league’s second-longest active streak reaching the postseason with a sixth straight playoff appearance in 2023.
