PITTSBURGH (September 30, 2016) – The Steel City World Cup is calling attention to all soccer players, supporters, and lovers of the global game. Presented by BNY Mellon, Pittsburgh’s twist on the World Cup comes to Highmark Stadium this October 15-16 for a two-day soccer tournament and cultural festival.
Registration for the tournament remains open. Eligible teams must be comprised of 10-12 players over the age of 21, both male and female, and include at least three players from the country being represented. Teams are guaranteed to player at least three games. To register, visit steelcityworldcup.com – deadline is Monday, October 10.
Organized to celebrate the diversity of Pittsburgh, the Steel City World Cup will feature up to, based on participation, 32 teams representing 32 different countries. The teams will play in a World Cup-style tournament over the course of the weekend, culminating in the championship match and accompanying festivities at the stadium on Sunday, October 16. Cultural groups are welcome to actively participate in the activities. The event is free and open to the public.
