PITTSBURGH (June 30, 2017) – The Pittsburgh Riverhounds announced another roster move ahead of their tilt against the Charlotte Independence on July 4, receiving goalkeeper Macklin Robinson on loan from North Carolina FC of the NASL.
The addition of Macklin comes in wake of the Hounds potentially being down two keepers for Tuesday’s contest. Starter Trey Mitchell’s status remain unclear after suffering a shoulder injury during pregame warm ups against the Tampa Bay Rowdies on June 22, while his replacement for that match, Keasel Broome, is away on national team duty for Barbados in the Windward Island Tournament until July 6.
“We’re obviously in need of goalkeeping help for the Charlotte game in light of Trey’s injury and Keasel being away on international duty,” head coach Dave Brandt said. “We played against Macklin in preseason [1-1 draw on Feb. 18] and are looking forward to having him on our side this time around. He’s an excellent young keeper and we’re grateful to North Carolina FC for making him available to us.”
Robinson, 23, originally signed with North Carolina FC – then the Carolina RailHawks – in 2016. The keeper has yet to make a regular season appearance for the club with his lone start coming in the Second Round of this year’s U.S. Open Cup – a 6-1 victory over the Carolina Dynamo.
A native of Cincinnati, Ohio, Robinson played collegiately at both Ohio Dominican and DePaul University prior to joining North Carolina FC. He began his collegiate career at Ohio Dominican, leading his team back-to-back Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Tournament Championship games, including the regular season and tournament titles in 2013.
Robinson transferred to DePaul following two seasons in Columbus, experiencing considerable success across 34 appearances (32 starts) for the Blue Demons. During the 2014 season, Robinson most notably earned 2014-15 Big East All-Academic Team honors, as well as finished second in the conference in saves and saves per game.
The Hounds expect Robinson to be available for next week’s match. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. at Highmark Stadium. Tickets are still available and can be purchased by visiting www.riverhounds.com.
