PITTSBURGH (August 15, 2017) – Pittsburgh Riverhounds forward Chevaughn Walsh has been named to the USL Team of the Week after his two-goal showing in the Keystone Derby Cup-clinching match against the Harrisburg City Islanders this past weekend.
Making his seventh start of the season, Walsh’s brace came all in the second half of the match, adding to a one goal lead to help put the City Islanders away, 3-0, en route to the Hounds capturing their second Keystone Cup in the Derby’s three years of existence.
The Spanish Town, Jamaica native’s first goal of the match came via an impressive hustle play in the 56th minute, as he sprinted from the halfway line all the way to the opposing penalty area to place pressure on City Islanders goalkeeper Brandon Miller. Attempting to field a pass from his defense, Miller could not play the ball cleanly, and Walsh was there to take advantage, stripping the ball and finding the frame with his left foot.
Walsh’s second goal of the night would come only 20 minutes later by assist of forward Romeo Parkes. The fellow Jamaica native sent a pass to Walsh, who stood about eight yards away from the goalmouth, for an easy one-time finish into the back of the net.
For Walsh, his two-goal output was a single-game career-high, as well as matched a season-high for a Hounds player – Corey Hertzog tallied twice in the 2017 opener against New York Red Bulls II in March. He is second on the team in goals scored this season with five.
Additionally, Walsh’s weekly honor marks the seventh time a Hounds player has been named to the Team of the Week this season.
The Hounds (6-8-9) will look to build upon their big result from last weekend, next visiting Saint Louis FC (7-9-5) at 8:30 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 19 at World Wide Technology Soccer Park.
