PITTSBURGH (August 16, 2017) – Pittsburgh Riverhounds goalkeeping coach and goalkeeping academy director Hunter Gilstrap has been added to the coaching staff for the U.S. Under-14 Boys’ National Team camp in Portland, Oregon.
Gilstrap will serve as the team’s goalkeeping coach during the camp, currently underway, which consists of 36 players, including four goalkeepers, and is expected to run through Aug. 20.
“I’m very excited for this opportunity to get to work with the highest-level U-14 Boys players in the country. It’s been a lifelong goal of mine to be involved with the U.S. National Team’s programs,” Gilstrap said. “I feel like this is an important first step and also provide a great opportunity for me to get a better idea of where our academy boys, particularly the goalkeepers, stack up nationally.
“I think it should be a goal for all of our Hounds Academy goalkeepers to get to this level. Hopefully this experience helps me to better facilitate their development to make that a possibility.”
Per the U.S. Soccer release, the U-14 BNT will play an intrasquad match as well as a pair of friendlies against Portland Timbers and Seattle Sounders Development Academy teams, a mix of 2002 and 2003 birth year players.
Head coach Clint Peay leads the camp with Gilstrap joined by assistant coaches Bob Jenkins and Christian Gonzalez on the coaching staff. For more information on the U14 camp, visit ussoccer.com.
