PITTSBURGH (October 3, 2017) – The Pittsburgh Riverhounds will host the fifth and final night of their “Health Series” with Kick for Cancer – Breast Cancer Awareness – Night at Highmark Stadium on Saturday, Oct. 7 against the Rochester Rhinos.
Presented by Allegheny Health Network (AHN), the official medical provider of the Riverhounds, the Health Series was designed to educate fans and generate awareness about a range of health topics including heart disease prevention, pediatric orthopaedic and concussion awareness, prostate and breast cancer awareness, and ways to live a healthy life and avoid injury.
Saturday night will kick off with honoring AHN breast cancer survivors prior to the game with their families participating in a special Tunnel of Hope. The players will wear special pink kits during the game. The jerseys will be autographed and auctioned off with proceeds going to help “kick” cancer at Susan G. Komen® Pittsburgh, whose mission is to save lives by meeting the most critical needs in our communities and investing in breakthrough research to prevent and cure breast cancer.
The first 1,000 fans to enter the stadium will receive a special pink Kick for Cancer t-shirt. As part of the Kick for Cancer campaign, support cards/signs will be available on the concourse for fans to personalize and display when cued during the game. Fans will also have a chance to post pictures with their support cards to register for a special AHN social media sweepstakes.
Furthermore, fans have the opportunity to engage with breast cancer specialists onsite to learn about risk factors, symptoms, how it is found and how it is treated.
“We have made much progress in the fight against breast cancer, thanks to innovative treatments and newer screening methods that detect breast cancer at its earliest stages,” said William Poller, MD, Director of the Division of Breast Imaging at AHN. “But we continue to fight this disease on many fronts. We encourage women to proactively take charge of their health by having regular mammograms and discussing personal risk factors with their physicians.”
Upcoming AHN cancer screening events are scheduled for Sept. 30 in Erie, Oct. 7 in Jefferson Hills and Nov. 4 in Natrona Heights. To register, or for more information, call 412-469-7002 (Pittsburgh screenings) or 814.866.4890 (Erie screening.)
