PITTSBURGH (June 26, 2018) – Pittsburgh Riverhounds SC defender Hugh Roberts has been named to USL Team of the Week after helping the Hounds to their league-best ninth clean sheet of the season in a nil-nil draw at the Charleston Battery this past Saturday.
Anchoring the backline, Roberts led the club with four tackles in addition to tying for the team lead in both interceptions (3) and clearances (5). The center back was particularly effective defending one-on-one, winning 17-of-24 duels, as the Hounds held Charleston to just three shots and one on goal – the third time this season Pittsburgh has held an opponent to three shots.
In his first season in Black and Gold after spending last year with Bethlehem Steel FC, Roberts has made 11 appearances to date, including seven starts. He is one of four Hounds to have recorded 40-plus clearances (43), joining fellow central defenders Tobi Adewole (49), Todd Pratzner (46) and Thomas Vancaeyezeele (41).
The accolade marks the eighth time a Hound has been named to USL Team of the Week.
Pittsburgh caps off its two-game road swing tomorrow night with a visit to reigning league champion Louisville City FC. Kick off is set for 7 p.m. at Slugger Field and fans can catch all the action live on ESPN+.
