Pittsburgh Riverhounds SC (8-3-8) plays host to Memphis 901 FC (4-9-6) at 7 p.m. this Saturday at Highmark Stadium. The two clubs did meet earlier in the season, but the match was abandoned after inclement weather arose at halftime.
Hometown Heroes
It has been over a year since the Black and Gold last dropped a regular season result at Highmark Stadium. The last time the club suffered a regular season defeat on home turf was a 1-0 loss to the Charleston Battery on July 21, 2018.
This season, Riverhounds SC stands with an unblemished 5-0-5 record in the Steel City. Memphis has found success on the road though, with two of its four wins coming on this road this season.
Sparse Scoring
Memphis has only posted 20 goals in its inaugural season, which is the second-fewest mark in the Eastern Conference. Striker Elliot Collier has accounted for a quarter of those tallies, with five goals through 16 appearances. Fellow forward Brandon Allen is second on the team in scoring with three goals on the year.
Nifty Neco
With his blast in last weekend’s victory over Hartford Athletic, Neco Brett took the team lead in goals (six). Riverhounds SC is 5-0-1 in games this season in games when Brett has found the back of the net. The midfielder has posted a 26.1 percent conversion rate on shots this year and has been instrumental in the club’s success.
By the Numbers: 29
With 29 career goals in the Black and Gold, Kevin Kerr is one tally short of tying Thiago Martins for second-most career league goals in club history.
Key to Victory: Fire Away
With the struggles Memphis has had to get on the scoreboard, it’s crucial that the Hounds can create plenty of offensive opportunities. If Pittsburgh can come out firing, strike early and hold down the fort on the defensive half of the field, it’s very possible that they can pull out a win on Saturday.
