Ohio was the destination for many of the Riverhounds Development Academy (RDA) teams last weekend, especially the sides representing the RDA East.
On a crossover weekend for the Great Lakes Alliance, featuring teams from Ohio, western New York and western Pennsylvania, the RDA East’s younger sides experienced solid competition and, in many cases, came away with good results.
The 2009 East Boys won two of three games on their weekend; their 3-1 victory over the Cleveland Force and a 5-2 win over CAPS FC bookended a 4-1 setback against Canton United. Chase Hall had three goals on the weekend, and Matthew Kolencik, Noah Jurcevich and Michael Aubele each netted two goals across the three matches.
Among the East’s girls teams, the 2006 East Girls were unbeaten in a pair of matches. Rylin Bugosh and Isabella Swartz scored to get their side a 2-2 draw against Ohio Strikers United, and the team pitched a shutout in their second match, a 3-0 win over West Side Stars South.
Other highlights of the day included a hat trick by Ian Decerb for the 2007 East Boys in a 4-4 draw with Dayton-area club CUSA, the 2009 East Girls getting goals from Angelica Dent and Lauren Paugh in a 2-1 win over the Western New York Flash, and the 2008 East Girls proving to be a stout defensive side with a pair of 0-0 draws on the weekend.
The Academy’s city sides were on the road in Ohio North League matchups, and for some it was a good learning experience.
The 2010 Boys started out on the wrong end of a lopsided score with a strong Pacesetter FC team, but later on Saturday, the team made the needed adjustments and bounced back for a 4-1 win over Team Challenger South. The 2009 Boys also shook off a close early loss to win against Team Challenger South, 4-0, with two goals from Harlen Smith and one each from David Zarocki and Warren Agostoni.
