PITTSBURGH (September 13, 2019) –The Pittsburgh Riverhounds Development Academy (RDA) 2007 Boys team will travel to Scotland for a visit with Rangers F.C. of the Scottish Premiership while having an opportunity to play games and participate in training sessions in pair with the Rangers organization.
The 2007 RDA Boys will arrive in Glasgow, Scotland on Nov. 25 and will stay through Dec. 3. The team’s first match is scheduled for Nov. 26, and Dundee United Academy has been confirmed as one of the team’s opponents during the trip. The team is led by head coach John Rotz, who has been instrumental in organizing this tremendous opportunity.
“This is a once in a lifetime opportunity for the RDA players to be part of such a trip,” Academy Director Scott Gibson said. “The boys will get to visit one of the greatest clubs in world football and will get to see a different culture, way of training, and will be exposed to state-of-the-art training facilities and coaches. For me personally, this is a dream to have one of our RDA teams visit the club I grew up supporting and still do to this day. We hope this opens up the door for more of our teams to visit in the future. It’s an outstanding step forward for the RDA.”
In addition to competing in matches, the squad will have an opportunity to participate in training sessions at the Rangers Hummel Training Centre and the Toryglen Regional Football Centre. The visit is capped by a trip to the Rangers and Heart of Midlothian matchup on Dec. 1 at Ibrox Stadium.
Away from the field, the group will have the opportunity to sightsee castles in Edinburgh as well as tour Hampden Stadium, where the Scottish National Team competes, and Football Museum.
“I am delighted to be welcoming the Pittsburgh Riverhounds Academy team to the club in November,” said Gary Crooks, Rangers F.C. International Soccer Schools Executive. “Scott and I have known each other for a number of years now and share a similar philosophy to youth development. It’s great to see from afar how the Riverhounds Academy has progressed and the great work of Scott and his team coming to fruition.”
