PITTSBURGH (June 27, 2023) — In only his second full 90 minute outing this year, Pittsburgh Riverhounds SC defender Illal Osumanu was named to the USL Championship Team of the Week, the league announced this afternoon.
Osumanu earned the Week 16 honor after scoring his first professional goal for the Hounds against San Diego Loyal SC, heading in a Burke Fahling free kick in the first minute of stoppage time for a 2-1 Hounds victory.
The Ghanaian center back also put in an impressive shift defensively, where Osumanu had a team-leading five clearances and won possession nine times for the Hounds. In possession he managed an 86 percent pass success rate — tops among the starters — completing 31 of his 36 passes.
It is the first Team of the Week honor in the USL Championship for Osumanu, who joined the Hounds after previously playing for Union Omaha in USL League One. To see the entire Team of the Week, visit uslchampionship.com.
