SPEED AND STRENGTH TRAINING ACADEMY – WINTER 2022
The Winter Speed and Strength Academy kicks off (indoor) in January 2022 at the state of the art Montour Junction Sports Complex. This 8-week program offers Speed and Strength training for both boys and girls from U10-U18.19. The program is open to all players, regardless of club affiliation, and involves an intense training curriculum focused on high-level Speed and Strength development.
Speed is perhaps the most coveted physical attribute for any athlete and also the most difficult to properly develop. It is a delicate balance of power, coordination, and rhythm that must be demonstrated at maximum velocity. Much like soccer, speed is a highly technical skill that must be practiced to be improved.
Come learn the fundamentals of speed and power and how to execute them at an extraordinarily high level. Our program will be data driven showing objective growth in both acceleration and maximum velocity using Freelap electronic timing.

PHILOSOPHY
The objective of the speed and strength brand is to create the most physically prepared soccer athlete as possible. At the youngest ages, development of the broadest athletic skill set is most important. Mastery of general concepts in regard to strength, speed and mobility form the foundation from which the brand is built. Developing these basics and holding them to professional standards not only creates dynamic, well-rounded athletes but also more resilient, healthy athletes.
As the athlete matures through the Academy and approaches results-oriented competition and professional models, the specificity in regard to the training is increased and the physical development begins to address an athlete’s individual weaknesses.
The Speed and Strength staff work with the entire Pittsburgh Riverhounds SC model from professional to youth. Please see a video below that explains our program in depth.
