Opening its 2018 season, Penn FC suffered a 1-0 loss at Charleston off a goal by Ataullah Guerra and failed to register a shot on goal. Penn FC and the Hounds met during the preseason at Highmark Stadium, where the Hounds dealt Penn FC a 3-2 loss thanks to tallies from Joe Holland, Kevin Kerr and Romeo Parkes.
The Penn FC roster is almost completely brand new from last year save for returners Jake Bond, Tiago Calvano, Chris Hill, and Sean Lewis. One familiar face returning to the club from years past is forward Lucky Mkosana, who played with the City Islanders during the 2012-2013 seasons. Mkosana scored a hat trick in the 7-1 win over the Philadelphia Fury during the preseason.
Strengths
Passing: Penn FC managed to complete 81 more passes than Charleston in its season opener. They also earned 55 percent possession throughout the game.
Familiar foes: In its three years of existence, the Keystone Derby has been a competitive affair with the Hounds prevailing in the season series twice. Despite the advantage in wins, Penn FC has provided spirited competition for the Black and Gold, holding the Hounds to a goal or less in five of the last six meetings between the two clubs.
Weaknesses
Converting opportunities: Despite holding the possession advantage last weekend against Charleston, Penn FC was not able to put any of its three shots on frame and was held scoreless after not once being shut out during the preseason.
