No. 1 seed Pittsburgh Riverhounds SC heads into USL Championship postseason play as the top team in the Eastern Conference for the first time in club history. The Hounds will host the lowest remaining seed after the opening round of games at 7 p.m. on Saturday at Highmark Stadium.
Potential Opponents
Pittsburgh’s 1-0 win on Sunday night secured the team’s position at the top of the standings. One of No. 8 Ottawa Fury FC, No. 9 Charleston Battery, or No. 10 Birmingham Legion FC will take on the Black and Gold this weekend. The Hounds posted an overall record of 4-0-2 against those clubs in the regular season.
Fury FC leads the group of potential opponents in goals on the year, finding the back of the net 50 times. Birmingham earned the most clean sheets (12) during the regular season out of the three.
Pittsburgh Tough
The Hounds finished the regular season riding a 17-match unbeaten streak in home matches, dating back to last season’s playoff match against Bethlehem Steel FC. The Black and Gold finished the year outscoring opponents 30-10 on home turf.
With a 10-0-7 record at Highmark Stadium this year, the club was one of just two teams (Indy Eleven) in the Eastern Conference to finish the year unbeaten at home.
Mr. Klean
With 13 clean sheets on the season, Kyle Morton set the record for most single season shutouts in franchise history. The goalkeeper finished regular season play with 48 saves on the year.
Morton’s 16 career clean sheets rank third all-time in Riverhounds SC history.
Pittsburgh Riverhounds SC only conceded 30 goals during the regular season slate, which marked the third lowest number in the entire USL Championship. The team also tied its single-season record with 17 total clean sheets, which was also the squad’s amount in 2018.
