PITTSBURGH (January 17, 2020) – The 2004 and 2008 Boys teams of the Riverhounds Development Academy (RDA) have been accepted to participate in the 2020 Dr Pepper Dallas Cup, taking place April 5-12.
This will be the second time the 2004 Boys team will compete against teams across the globe in the invitational tournament, as this squad made its first appearance in 2018. The 2004 Boys team is led by coach Dave Nicholas whereas coach Stephen Okai oversees the 2008 Boys team. This is the first time more than one RDA team has been accepted to compete in the Dallas Cup.
“We are delighted to offer our RDA boys another great platform to go and compete,” Academy Director Scott Gibson said. “The Dallas Cup is an outstanding tournament, and to be welcomed back for a third year with two teams is a testament to the growth of the program. The quality of games on our yearly calendar continues to get better with the Boys ECNL, USL Academy Cup, Dallas Cup and trip to Glasgow Rangers across various boys’ age groups. We will continue to add quality as we move through 2020.”
This will be the third straight year the RDA will send at least one team to the Dallas Cup. Last year, the 2007 RDA Boys team competed in the prestigious tournament and just missed out on a quarterfinals appearance due to goal differential.
More than 100 different countries have competed in the Dallas Cup over the course of its history. This past 2018 FIFA World Cup featured a total of 28 Dallas Cup alumni.
