BIO
Danny Griffin is entering his sixth season overall with Riverhounds SC in 2025, returning to the club in 2023 by way of a transfer from Huntsville City FC of MLS Next Pro.
Griffin is going into his second season as the Riverhounds’ captain, and he has been a mainstay in the Hounds’ lineup going back to his 2020 rookie season. Entering this season, he had amassed 150 appearances for the club, good for fifth all-time, and he has missed only two league matches in his pro career. In his first three seasons in Pittsburgh, Griffin established a club record by appearing in 85 consecutive league matches — regular-season and postseason combined — a streak only interrupted by his brief stint with Huntsville.
He also led the Hounds in minutes played in 2024, 2022 and 2021, and in 2022, he set a Hounds record with 3,055 regular-season minutes played — five minutes short of the complete 34-game season. With Pittsburgh, Griffin has 11 goals and six assists, including the lone goal in the Hounds’ 1-0 road win over the New England Revolution in the 2023 U.S. Open Cup.
Before arriving in Pittsburgh, the Providence College product was drafted by Columbus Crew SC with the 49th overall selection in the second round of the 2020 MLS SuperDraft.
The Wethersfield, Conn. native finished his career at Providence with 80 games played — all starts — and 13 goals and six assists.
