PITTSBURGH (September 15, 2017) – The Pittsburgh Riverhounds are pleased to announce the club has officially added Moon Area Soccer Association (MASA) to their Partner Club Program for the 2017-18 competitive year. MASA is the fourth partner to join the fold since launching the community support initiative in August.
The partnership with Moon involves Riverhounds players and Academy staff leading technical development for young boys and girls between the ages of 8-10 on Monday evenings at Moon Park through the fall. Furthermore, the club hopes to expand the programming across additional age groups entering spring of 2018, as well as integrate more focused training opportunities for all participants, including goalkeeper-specific and strength and speed sessions.
MASA currently works with over 550 youth players between the ages of 7-14.
“Moon Soccer is very excited to partner with the Riverhounds,” said Jeff Shaver, MASA President. “We wanted to provide our young players with top notch technical training, led by energetic and enthusiastic trainers, that was locally convenient and reasonably priced and sustainable long-term, and the Riverhounds resoundingly fit the bill.”
The Riverhounds have maintained a relationship with MASA over the years, including the facilitation of summer camps and skills clinics at various sites in the area and a year spent in Moon playing USL home games at Moon Area High School Stadium in 2004.
“Moon is a tremendous soccer community that has good leadership and buy-in from volunteer coaches,” Director of Partnerships James Meara said. “Our goal is serve as an extension of their services, offering our resources right away while mapping out plans for additional platforms to launch in 2018.”
