Pittsburgh Riverhounds SC (2-1-5) looks to build on its second round Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup victory this coming weekend against Memphis 901 FC (2-6-3) at 8 p.m. on Saturday at AutoZone Park in Memphis. The match will be televised live on Pittsburgh’s CW.
The Season So Far
It has been a tough stretch for Memphis 901 FC thus far in the early portion of the season. Memphis has collected only two victories and currently sits in 15th place in the table. The club’s last victory came against Hartford Athletic, which currently sits in last place in the USL Championship standings.
Similarly to the Riverhounds, Memphis will have a short week to prepare for this league match. Memphis 901 FC will take on the New York Red Bulls U-23 club as part of the U.S. Open Cup Wednesday night.
This will be the first time both teams have met. Memphis entered the USL Championship for its inaugural season in 2019.
Players to Watch
Elliot Collier leads Memphis with 18 shots en route to two goals in nine appearances this season. Duane Muckette and Rashawn Dally have collected 14 shots each for Memphis as well.
Defensively, Marc Burch leads Memphis with 47 clearances and is tied for the team lead with four blocks on the season.
Strength: Scoring by Committee
Memphis 901 FC has had scoring production from across the pitch. Memphis currently has three players who have scored two goals apiece this season. Single goals have come from others on the roster for Memphis, so the Hounds will need to be keen on stopping chances.
Weakness: Stopping Shots
Both Memphis goalkeepers currently have a save success rate below 60 percent on the year, with starter Jeff Caldwell allowing 13 total goals on the young season. If the Riverhounds are able to fire shots to the net, they could very well take advantage of this save percentage.
