PITTSBURGH (November 6, 2018) – Pittsburgh Riverhounds SC head coach Bob Lilley and defender Joe Greenspan have been named as USL awards finalists for Coach of the Year and Defender of the Year, respectively.
In his first season at the helm, Lilley led the Hounds to their first-ever home playoff match at Highmark Stadium. Finishing third in the Eastern Conference upon the completion of the regular season, Pittsburgh racked up a 15-5-14 record.
Having been known for coaching strong defensive teams in the past, Lilley’s 2018 season in Pittsburgh was no different. The team notched a club-record single-season 17 clean sheets and 0.76 goals-against average.
Lilley joins head coaches Braeden Cloutier (Orange County SC) and Alan Koch (FC Cincinnati) as 2018 Coach of the Year finalists.
The Hounds have never had a head coach named Coach of the Year.
On the heels of being named USL All-League First Team, Greenspan joins defenders Paco Craig (Louisville City FC) and Forrest Lasso (FC Cincinnati) as Defender of the Year finalists.
Returning to the Hounds after spending the 2017 season as a loanee, the center back set a team record with 162 clearances. This season, Greenspan was twice named USL Team of the Week and led all Pittsburgh defenders with three goals and six points.
In team history, Shintaro Harada is the only Hound to have ever won the Defender of the Year award (2010).
