PITTSBURGH (October 7, 2020) – Pittsburgh Riverhounds SC goalkeeper Danny Vitiello has been awarded the USL Championship Golden Glove, which honors the league’s goalkeeper with the lowest goals-against average (GAA) across regular season competition.
Vitiello played eight games this season and added a .778 save percentage en route to his league-leading 0.50 GAA. His 0.50 GAA also sets a club record, which includes goalkeepers who have played at least 500 minutes over the course of a season. This is the first time in club history that a Pittsburgh goalkeeper has received the USL Championship Golden Glove award.
The Massapequa, New York native has started the last six games for the Hounds and has recorded four clean sheets over this stretch. In total, he has five clean sheets this season. He has showed great composure between the posts this campaign, which is exemplified by his two penalty kick saves.
He made his first start, and first-ever professional appearance, for the Hounds against New York Red Bulls II on July 26.
With help from Vitiello in net, Pittsburgh set a club record-best 0.63 goals allowed per game this season.
Riverhounds SC begins postseason action with an Eastern Conference Quarterfinals showdown against Louisville City FC at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 10 at Lynn Family Stadium. This match will be televised locally on 22 The Point.
